Located at the 45th parallel - the ideal climate for growing varietal wine grapes - seven distinct wineries that comprise this unique region have been recognized by international wine enthusiasts especially for their Reisling grapes. The Old Mission Peninsula is largely comprised of wineries and farmland with breathtaking views of the Grand Traverse Bay on the east and west coasts. Because Old Mission Peninsula is finger-like in shape, projecting approximately 18 miles into Grand Traverse Bay from Traverse City, it varies from one to three miles in width and contains approximately 54 miles of Great Lakes shoreline making it the perfect location for water views and site seeing along the coast.
The seven wineries which are on the peninsula are in close proximity to one another, making a wine tour convenient and easy to navigate. .The "Old Mission Peninsula Cruise" is considered to be a "serendipitous" adventure for travelers because of the beautiful scenery, good roads, and lack of traffic.
