The Heritage restaurant at the Secchia Culinary Institute at Grand Rapids Community College is a very special place. Not only will it impress the most gourmet tastes, the visual presentations are outstanding. This is due to the fact that this is a teaching restaurant where the students are graded on their performance.
The Heritage restaurant is one of the best places for a lovely meal in the city of Grand Rapids. Their offering is very sophisticated at both lunch and dinner. The only recommendation is that you call or check their website as they are open only when the school is is session - and that means that holiday breaks and summer times the restaurant may be closed. The instructors at this prestigious school are the best in the world. For example, small plates may include a crispy roasted sweet potato and fried Greek Kasseri cheese tower, a wonderful cheese and wine soup (the best I've ever tasted), a trio of salads that are beautiful, and a Roasted thyme infused Confit of duck. This is only a sample of the lunch menu which totally changes each semester! For dinner, also a seasonal menu, there will be a whole different selection. In Fall 2008 this included a Braised Pork Shank with risotto, Garlic Rack of Lamb with morel mushroom tart tatin, and Portabella Schnitzel breaded in an almond crust and served with a lemon sauce and braised cabbage and chive spatzle. The dinner menu includes choice of appetizer, salad or soup with an entree to encourage you to try different courses. This is a school, so be prepared to be surrounded by students just learning their service craft. The Heritage setting is elegant and lovely. Best of all the food is top notch and the prices are very affordable.
